宇宙是生命萬物的起源，神秘且充滿著尚待人們發掘的未知事物，本次藝術季以《石宇宙》為命名，冀望以此開展探索石頭猶如宇宙繁星般萬千的可能性。

石材因其雋永之特性，在不同的歷史時期對於文明發展皆有著重要功用，從上古石器的求生工具，到晚近的現代工藝與藝術作品，在時光的長河之下，不斷的衍生出豐富的樣貌，並對應著人類社會發展背景以及不同的需求。

花蓮因其特殊的地理位置，作為世界重要之大理石產地，長期以來發展石材相關產業，技術成熟且聞名全國。為求在剛冷的切割線條外找尋柔性的文化能量，近三十年來不間斷的籌辦石雕藝術季以推廣石雕藝術，透過關注不同的主題給予傳統石雕更多樣的風貌，並注入藝術創作者的個人風格與靈活巧思，為石雕作品帶來更多的敘事與符指。

「 2023年花蓮國際石雕藝術季」以時序與空間的斷點切片作為概念，拓展並解構對石雕認知的傳統，以多維角度重新探討其根源至未來的想像。期望觀眾能從回視石雕最根本之元素—石材，重新思考「石雕」的定義，並翻轉石材單純作為媒材的既定想像。「石」可以成為一種觀念和方法，而非眼前所見傳統之物。以此為本，藝術季將連結礦場、石材加工廠、藝術家工作室到展場展座，以時間與空間的擴延呈現石雕展覽媒材的豐富應用，差異於過往的石雕藝術創作，並發展出不同的命題、思考與內容。

架構在藝術季之下的雕塑主題特展「心形之爆」及其內含之「戶外創作營文件展」、周邊各項衍生活動等，共計歐亞非十個國家，二十四位藝術家參與，冀望本屆藝術季得以為總體計畫帶來多元性的視野、汲取國際性思考，並且在探討石礦的各種可能性之外，亦回應花蓮在地各種層面之特色，如歷史發展、環境生態、經濟與觀光之議題，深入探討藝術與社會之連結，以創作打開藝術與花蓮在地居民對話的另一種想像空間。

伴隨本次藝術季規劃的跨領域以及多元應用的組織策略，從文化、產業、形象推廣、城市行銷等手法實際應用於展覽之外的總體計畫上，透過全方位整合行銷為地方總體發展帶來更多加值的可能性。更藉由搭起藝術家與技術產業鏈的橋樑，活絡地方經濟，共創並推升產業榮景。此外，還計畫與旅遊業合作，推出石材產業之旅，邀請民眾一起探查礦場環境，貼近石材的發源地，讓觀者在欣賞藝術作品的同時，深入了解石材產業背後廣袤的歷史文化脈絡及地質環境發展；並也將表演藝術的跨領域合作融入相關計畫中，使其量能和空間激盪出多彩的風貌。

The universe is the origin of all life forms, mysterious and filled with undiscovered unknowns. This art season, named \"Stone Universe,\" hopes to explore the countless possibilities of stone, much like the stars in the universe.

Due to its enduring characteristics, stone has played a significant role in the development of civilizations throughout history. From ancient stone tools for survival to modern craftsmanship and art, the passage of time has given rise to diverse forms, corresponding to the backdrop of human societal evolution and various needs.

\n

Hualien, with its unique geographical location and a significant marble-producing region in the world, has long developed stone-related industries, boasting mature techniques and national renown. To find the flexible cultural energy within the rigid cutting lines, the Stone Sculpture Art Festival has been organized without interruption for nearly three decades to promote stone sculpture art. By focusing on different themes, traditional stone sculptures have been given various appearances, infused with the personal styles and creative ingenuity of artists, enriching the narratives and symbols within the sculptures.

The \"2023 Hualien International Stone Sculpture Art Festival\" takes the concept of slicing time and space as a breakpoint, expanding and deconstructing traditional perceptions of stone sculpture, exploring its origin to future imaginings from multidimensional angles. It's hoped that audiences will re-evaluate the fundamental element of stone sculpture, the stone itself, redefining the essence of \"stone sculpture\" and shifting away from the traditional notion of stone as merely a medium. \"Stone\" can become a concept and method rather than a traditional object. With this foundation, the art season will connect quarries, stone processing factories, artists' studios, and exhibition spaces, presenting the rich application of stone sculpture as an exhibition medium through the extension of time and space. This differs from previous stone sculpture art, developing different themes, perspectives, and content.

Underpinning the art season are the sculpture-themed exhibition \"Heart Burst\" and its related \"Outdoor Creation Camp Document Exhibition,\" as well as various associated activities. A total of 24 artists from 10 countries in Europe, Asia, and Africa are participating. This art season aims to bring a diverse perspective to the overall plan, draw international contemplation, and explore various possibilities of stone mining. It also addresses various local aspects of Hualien, including historical development, environmental ecology, economy, and tourism, delving into the connection between art and society. Through these creations, an alternative space for dialogue between art and Hualien's local residents will be imagined.

Accompanying this art season's interdisciplinary and diverse application strategies are comprehensive plans outside of the exhibition, integrating culture, industry, brand promotion, city marketing, and more. This integration marketing brings added possibilities to overall regional development. By building bridges between artists and the technological industry chain, it revitalizes the local economy, collaboratively creating and promoting industrial prosperity. Additionally, plans are in place to collaborate with the tourism industry, introducing tours of the stone industry, inviting people to explore quarry environments, connecting them with the birthplace of stone materials. Audiences can gain insights into the extensive historical and cultural context and geological environmental development behind the stone industry while enjoying art pieces. Furthermore, cross-disciplinary collaborations in performing arts are integrated into related projects, creating a vibrant display of capacity and space.

The planning, content, and execution of the \"2023 Hualien International Stone Sculpture Art Festival\" involve new thinking paths and ambitious goals. These are based on nearly three decades of accumulated local and international experiences, which serve as the foundation for the innovative concepts of the art season. 「戶外創作營」是花蓮國際石雕藝術季的核心活動，自1995年起辦理迄今不僅為花蓮累積百餘件戶外大型石雕佳作，提供在地鄉親及遊客美好的文化享受，亦使花蓮石雕藝術揚名國際，成為地方的重要藝術資產。

有別於上一屆(2020年)戶外創作營受疫情衝擊，只能邀請台灣藝術家駐地創作，今年終於迎來全面解封，回歸國際交流盛況。這一屆共邀請義大利、法國、德國、保加利亞及伊朗等5個國家10位國際雕刻家，來台進行為期一個月的駐地現場大型創作，精彩可期不容錯過。

The \"Outdoor Creation Camp\" is the core activity of the Hualien International Stone Sculpture Art Season. Since its inception in 1995, it has accumulated over a hundred outdoor large-scale stone sculpture masterpieces, providing the local community and visitors with a wonderful cultural experience. It has also elevated Hualien's stone sculpture art to international recognition, becoming an essential artistic asset of the region.

\n\n

Differing from the previous edition in 2020, which was impacted by the pandemic and could only invite Taiwanese artists for on-site residency creations, this year marks a full reopening and a return to the international exchange scene. For this edition, artists from five countries – Italy, France, Germany, Bulgaria, and Iran – have been invited. A total of ten international sculptors will engage in a month-long on-site large-scale creation, promising an exciting and not-to-be-missed event.
